The purpose of the Environmental Education Program in Prince George's County is to enable students to make decisions and take actions that create and maintain an optimal relationship between themselves and the environment, and to preserve and protect the unique natural resources of Maryland, particularly those of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed. (Environmental Education Bylaw 13A.04.17.03) It is our mission that every student's visit contain a meaningful Chesapeake Bay Watershed experience.

Camp Schmidt is next Monday and Tuesday(December 17th & 18th)
Dear Parents,

Please make sure that your child arrives to school by the normal start time of 7:30 am. We will begin the day in the classroom and depart shortly after. When we return on Tuesday, students will be back in time for regular bus dismissal. Your child should come prepared with appropriate clothing and materials listed on the supply list. As we will only be gone for one night, please make sure that students ONLY bring items that they can carry. We suggest limiting packed items to one bag.

Some parents have asked about the check-in process. This is typically a quick process. We will load student belongings on the bus. When we get there, students and chaperones will quickly go to rooms and place materials on their bunks. Boys and girls will have separate sleeping arrangements.

This field trip will include nature walks, searching for life in a stream, lessons in using a compass, using math skills in the outdoors, physically challenging activities to develop confidence, teamwork, and self-esteem. All activities will be conducted in accordance with Prince George’s County Public School’ policies and procedures. Additionally, food will be provided, however we cannot accommodate specific dietary needs (i.e. vegetarian, no pork, etc.) so please send your child with a meal for dinner and lunch if this is the case.

Thank you so much for allowing your child to participate in this meaningful experience!

The fifth Grade team,
Mrs. Ahn, Mrs. Carson, Mrs. Richardson, & Mrs. Lohrmann
